RIC’s literary and arts magazine, Shoreline, is holding their annual contest from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31. Every spring, Shoreline Literary and Arts Magazine publishes new and innovative art and literary pieces, including contest winners from the fall contest. This is a great way to showcase your work and get the chance to win a $100 prize, of which there is one for each category. Shoreline’s contest is a good way to introduce yourself to a new opportunity as well.
Take a chance and submit writing and art that you may have never published before. If you win the contest in the section you submitted to, it is an awesome thing to put on your resume for the future. Shoreline considers fiction pieces, creative nonfiction, photography and poetry. Please also consider submitting photographs of your physical art including metalwork, pottery and paintings.
Some tips from Shoreline to follow before submitting to the contest:
You must be an enrolled RIC student, undergraduate or graduate.
Your submission(s) must be your own work and not previously published.
Your submission(s) must be titled. Do not include your name in the submission document.
A submission to Shoreline does not guarantee that your piece will be published
If you do not win the contest in the fall, you have the chance to be published again in the spring
The guidelines for the contest are as follows:
Poetry: Up to five poems in one .docx or .pdf format.
Fiction: Up to three pieces of flash fiction or one short story with a 6,000 word limit.
Creative Nonfiction: Up to 6,000 words in a double spaced .docx or .pdf format.
Art/Photography: Up to five pieces saved as .jpgs. Photographs of pottery, sculpture, metalworking, etc, are also very welcomed.
Winners will be announced on Dec. 1.
To submit, please email to ric.shoreline@gmail.com. In the subject line, please state: the contest name, your name and category. Please do not put your name in the document(s) you are submitting.
