James P. Adams Library’s Access Services does some amazing things to aid campus. Let me tell you all about it.
Access Services provides access to the building, materials within the building and even materials outside of the building. Sarah Sanfilippo, Assistant Director of Access Services, supervises all Access Services staff and makes sure the building is run accordingly. She helps develop policies to make sure the building is safe and accessible to students, faculty, visitors (and of course, the staff as well).
Access Services is broken down into two departments: Borrowing Services and the Interlibrary Loan office. Borrowing Services allows you to borrow materials from RIC. You can borrow books, DVDs, technology and other classic library materials. Did your computer crash right before finals? Did you forget to bring your calculator and you have a math exam? Or could you have possibly forgotten your phone charger? Trust me, we’ve all been there. Well, have no fear; Borrowing Services is here. You can go up to the desk anytime the library is open and ask to borrow any of these materials. Just remember to bring your student ID and you can check things out with ease.
Our interlibrary loan office allows students to request a book, chapter or article from a different library. If you’re ever searching for a book on our website and it says “Get it Through Interlibrary Loan” next to it, feel free to fill out the linked form and get your materials. Please keep in mind it can take up to two weeks for your physical materials to arrive. Journal article requests can take 1-3 business days.
Access Services is dedicated to keeping you safe and meeting your library needs. Our Library Supervisors Brian Baker, Amos Jallah Jr., Nicholas Ullman and Bill D’Arezzo are here to open and close the library, help student workers best answer your questions and are overall dedicated to making sure you have access to materials you need to succeed.
Have you been looking for a job here on campus? Our information Services Technician Joanne Valente handles library student hiring. Jobs are posted and usually filled before the semester starts, but you can apply through Handshake with your resume, cover letter and work study award (if applicable).
Before you visit us, take a look at the library website’s Borrowing Privileges page and explore what materials you have access to. We hope to see you soon.
