Thrifting has taken over Providence in recent years, especially among college campus dwellers, for its sustainability and opportunity for a good deal. For your next favorite thrift find, take a look at the following local vintage shops and businesses each with a unique twist.
The Nest: Hidden in a Providence nook, The Nest might be small but houses an abundant collection of unique second-hand clothing. Committed to helping you look your best, The Nest also offers in-house tailoring services from experienced tailor Julia Medeiros, a professional sewist for the past 25 years. Or if you are looking to alter your own thrift finds, The Nest offers classes on sewing, knitting and mending. The Nest goes above and beyond, offering events throughout the year ranging from clothing swaps to fill-a-bag sales announced regularly on their Instagram and website.

Nostalgia: A self-proclaimed three-floor adventure on the East Side, Nostalgia Antiques & Collectibles contains a menagerie of treasures. During your visit into the past with Nostalgia, you will have the opportunity for insight into your future with Sherry Ryan, a licensed therapist who offers tarot and astrology readings out of the vintage shop. If looking for a unique knick-knack, a new statement for your wardrobe, a conversation piece for your dorm or for spiritual insight, Nostalgia might be the shop for you. For more information, keep up with this local business on their website or on Instagram.
POP-UP PVD: A traveling thrift store with a broad selection of stylish wares, POP-UP has shot up in popularity for its commitment to teaming up with local events and businesses. Known among Providence colleges for appearing on campuses, POP-UP recently appeared at this past WXINstock in collaboration with RIC’s own 90.7 WXIN and Environmental Club to bring our little community affordable and ethical fashion. Without a permanent residence, POP-UP can be tricky to find, but rumor has it they will be making an appearance at Salve Regina University, this Friday, Sept. 26. To keep up with POP-UP, those interested can follow them on Instagram.
