Sunday, Sept. 6

Mens soccer @ LaSell University – W, 5-3

Seven goals rocketed into LaSell’s net in a second-half scoring fest in Newton, Massachusetts, on Sunday. Second-year Alex Ciotti led the way with two goals, with classmate forward Julian Orellana punched in a goal to go alongside two assists. Fourth-year goalkeeper Elhadji Ndoye had six saves to notch his first win of the season to even his record at 1-1.

Tuesday, Sept. 8

Womens tennis vs Suffolk University – W, 7-0

RIC pummeled the visitors on all fronts, clearing doubles easily and following up with strong singles performances. Third-year Emilia Houwers third singles win clinched the affair for the Little East Conference champions. Womens tennis begins the season 2-0.

Womens volleyball @ Worcester State University – W, 3-2 (19-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 15-5)

The Anchorwomen prevailed in their second away contest of the season in a five-set thriller to maintain a spotless 3-0 record. RIC slammed the door on the Lancers with a 12-1 run in the fifth set to close the match. Fourth-year outside hitter Sarina Marines had 18 kills to go with 16 digs.

Wednesday, Sept. 9

Mens golf @ Mitchell Invitational II – 2nd place (Three teams)

Fourth-year Mike Decesare led the Anchormen with a second place spot on the par-71 course, carding a 76 (+5). Second-year Ryan Gervais had a fourth-place finish with a score of 78 (+7). 15 golfers competed at the Shennecossett Golf Course.

Womens soccer vs Curry College – W, 1-0

Third-year Caitlyn Terceiro billed the lone goal to improve to 3-0 on the season heading into their first Little East matchup against Plymouth State University. The hosts allowed just four shot attempts with fourth-year goalkeeper Nicole Nunes making all four saves, including a strong-effort save in the 89th minute to shutout the Colonels.

Thursday, Sept. 10

Womens volleyball vs Bridgewater State University – L, 3-1 (25-22, 15-25, 22-25, 20-25)

Bridgewater refocused after a first-set loss to win three straight and hand the hosts their first loss of the year. Fourth-year setter Yuleisy Alvelo registered a team-high 22 assists in the defeat, while classmate outside hitter Sarina Marines clocked in with 16 kills and 14 digs.

Saturday, Sept. 12

Cross Country @ Shawn M. Nassaney Invitational:

On the women’s end, first-year Kristen Fountaine finished as the top runner with a 41st-place effort (20:24.2). For the men, fourth-year Andrew Frezza took 43rd (17:16.1). Rhode Island College was the lone NCAA Division III squad in the invitational hosted by Bryant University.

Womens tennis @ Curry College – W, 7-0

Head coach Adam Spring’s team has yet to lose a match this season in their third straight win to open up the season. Third-year Haylie Peacock shutout her Colonel opponent at first singles. Third-years Emilia Houwers and Arianna DeThomas made easy work of their first doubles opponent with a 6-0 win.

Womens volleyball @ Westfield State University, Nichols College:

L vs Westfield State University, 3-2 (25-27, 25-12, 23-25, 25-20, 13-15): The Anchorwomen and the tournament-hosting Owls ping-ponged set wins, with Westfield ultimately prevailing by two in the fifth set. Fourth-year outside hitter Marina Colonis led the defensive effort with 19 digs. Classmate Sarina Marines had her third double-double of the week with 19 kills and 16 digs.

W vs Nichols College, 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-17): A feisty second set from the Bison didn’t deter the Anchorwomen’s quick win to conclude Westfield State’s tournament with a 1-1 record.

Womens soccer vs Plymouth State University – W, 1-0

Third-year midfield/forward Caitlyn Terceiro punched in the lone goal in the Anchorwomen’s Little East home opener for her fifth goal of the year. Fourth-year goalkeeper Nicole Nunes made five saves in net, including a diving save in the final minutes to help secure the win. 

Mens soccer @ Plymouth State University – W, 1-0

Up in Plymouth, New Hampshire, the mens soccer teams played their Little East opener, with the Anchormen claiming the first conference win of the season. Second-year forward Kody Poplaski popped in the only goal of the affair. Fourth-year goalkeeper Elhadji Ndoye made two saves in the win.
