Alliance to Mobilize Our Resistance, or AMOR, is one of Providence’s local organizations fighting to support its local immigration community and combat state violence. Currently working in response to the Trump administration’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, the AMOR mission to advocate for and empower Rhode Island locals who have been affected by ICE is underway.

RIC’s own 90.7 WXIN chose AMOR as the receiving charity of last week’s Radiothon and Showcase fundraisers: a 24-hour livestream and concert finale featuring local bands Plant a Bug Grow a Flower and 8th Grade Slowdance. As a result of their efforts, 90.7 WXIN was able to donate $350 to AMOR and their initiatives

Having formed in 2017, AMOR not only states its efforts to protect immigrants but black, indigenous, people of color and LGBTQ+ communities too. According to the AMOR website, the organization’s Immigration Team is made up of “survivors of state violence, organizers, lawyers, donors, community members and volunteers” who work to support those in the immigration system, free detainees, prevent unjust deportations and improve state policy in RI.

AMOR also prides themselves on the resources they can provide. The organization consists of a network of community caregivers, licensed mental health professionals and other health professionals from a range of practices and cultures. Their Interpretation & Language Justice Team works to protect community members by providing legal support, consultation and translation to those who might need it. These are just a few of the divisions within AMOR working to support their cause.

In addition, the AMOR Defense Line Against Deportation and Police Brutality connects callers to case managers on staff and the organization’s community support network. To reach the Defense Line, those in need of resources can call (401)675-1414.
