The Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams both competed at the Little East Championship this past weekend, at Keene State in New Hampshire. The Anchormen and Anchorwomen both were both coming into this post season tournament fresh off regular season races.

The Men’s Cross Country team were successful in the team aspect of the Little East Championship. The Anchormen finished sixth place out of nine teams. The race was an eight kilometer race, with ninety-one competitors. Sophomore Benjamin Lockwood did the best for the Anchormen. Lockwood clocked in with a time of 27 minutes and 46.2 seconds. This time was good for 21st place out of ninety-one total racers.

The other racers for RIC also did well. Sophomore Juan Reyes finished in the upper half of the competitors with 37th place finish. Freshman Kensley Cadet also had a good finish. Cadet, only being a freshman, finished 64th place. With so many freshmen and sophomores on the Roster, the future for the Men’s Cross Country Team should be bright next year. The final team score for the Anchormen was 181.

The Women’s Cross Country Team had a Little East Champion, as sophomore Haley Oliver took home 1st place out of seventy competitors in the five kilometer race. Oliver’s time of 18:32.9 earned her All-Little East honors for the second consecutive season. Her time was twenty-eight seconds faster than the next fastest competitor.

Despite having a first place racer, the Anchorwomen finished seventh out of nine teams. The team score 161 was just too far off from the top scorer of 46 held by Keene State. Sophomore Amanda Herbert had an impressive time of 21:42.2, which finished 27th overall. Like the Men’s Cross Country Team, the Anchorwomen are flooded with underclassmen throughout the lineup. With such a young team, the future definitely looks bright for both teams moving forward, especially when a sophomore is already winning a conference individual title.

In upcoming action, both Cross Country teams will compete in the New England Division Three Championship in Westfield, Massachusetts. The race will take place on Nov. 11, so both teams look to build on the success of this race.
