The Rhode Island College Anchorwomen took on the University of Southern Maine Huskies and the Keene State Owls in Little East Conference action last week. The Anchorwomen entered the week posting a 5-2 record on the year and were 1-0 in LEC play.

The Anchorwomen hosted Southern Maine, hoping to stretch their win streak to five games and remain undefeated in the LEC. The Anchorwomen stormed out to an early lead in the first quarter as they held the Huskies to only six points in the quarter and had a commanding 21-6 lead heading in the second quarter. RIC have held their opponents in the first quarter to scoring only single digits during their last five games.

The second quarter saw the Anchorwomen and Huskies trade baskets as RIC was able to take the 15 point lead that they had built in the first quarter into the half, holding a 31-16 lead. The third quarter was all RIC, as the Anchorwomen were once again able to hold the Huskies to single digits, allowing only nine points in the quarter. The Anchorwomen were able to pile on 17 points in the quarter, ballooning their lead from 15 to 23 as they headed into the fourth quarter.

Angelina Nardolillo scored eight of RIC’s 15 points in the fourth quarter, as RIC stormed past the Huskies by a final of 63-37. Izabelle Booth and Nardolillo shared a team-high 16 points. Booth had seven rebounds to go along with her 16 points, while Nardolillo posted her third double-double in as many games with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Claire Greene chipped in with eight rebounds of her own.

The Anchorwomen then traveled to Keene State to take on the Owls. RIC entered the game on a five game win streak, looking to improve it to six. The Owls jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first four points of the game, but RIC responded by scoring 10 points of their own. The Owls tacked on one more point before the end of the first, and RIC found themselves leading 10-5 going into the second quarter.

RIC continued their first quarter dominance, as they now have held opponents to single digits for six games in a row. The Owls clawed their way back, only being down a single point, before the Anchorwomen connected on back-to-back threes that saw them expand their lead to 29-24 and head into halftime up five.

The third quarter started how the second quarter ended, with RIC hitting back-to-back threes and opening up an 11-point lead. The Anchorwomen and the Owls would trade baskets throughout the rest of the third quarter and RIC held a 44-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Anchorwomen scored 12 points in the final quarter, while keeping the Owls to only seven to take home the victory by a final score of 56-42.

RIC had two players score in double figures as Antonia Corsinetti and Booth finished with 21 and 14 points, respectively. Nardolillo led the team in rebounds, securing a team-high 10 rebounds. Neleesha Meunier and Booth each grabbed an additional seven boards.

The Anchorwomen are next in action as they travel to UMass Boston at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17.
