PROVIDENCE, R.I., — The class elections held earlier this month on Oct. 13 will have some run-offs, starting immediately. One potential reason for the need for run-off elections could be attributed to lack of candidates running the first time. Not enough candidates running then results in these positions being empty, even though they must be filled. The declaration period for students interested in running is officially open and will close on Nov. 9 at noon.

Students who are interested in running for any of the positions will need to go to the Student Community Government (SCG) office in the Student Union (Room 401) to declare their candidacy. These are the following positions available to run for in the run-off elections:

  • Vice President and Secretary of the Freshmen class.

  • Treasurer of the Sophomore class.

  • Vice President and Secretary of the Junior class.

  • Secretary of the Senior class.

The Vice President position for the senior class is on the ballot in this run-off due to a tie. This position cannot accept any write in entries. Those two candidates are the only ones on the ballot for Vice President of Class of 2022.

Elections are going to be held on Wednesday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Donovan Dining Center. Voting will be done electronically as done in the first election. This will be the final chance those interested in running for these positions will have to be able to represent their class’ best interests.

This is an opportunity for students in the classes of 2022 through 2025 to let their voices be heard. Those who are elected to these positions will be responsible for planning activities and events for their graduating class.

Those who are interested in learning more about the upcoming run-off elections and may have any additional questions can contact SCG Vice President Daisy Tran by email at vicepresident@ricscg.org.
