After two doubleheaders on Dec. 4, with a loss to New York University and their first win of the season 39-15, over New England College, the Anchormen Wrestling can let out a sigh of relief after this past weekend.

Working together as a team strongly all year, this past Saturday, Nathan Lackman, with 36 points on the season, won twice going 2-0 on that day with a pin as the Anchormen split at the Roger Williams Duals. They had to forfeit wins to New York University in the opener that day due to injuries.

Not only did the Anchormen receive their first win this week, Freshman Fred Luchs, alongside Lackman, but also took home two individual titles in the opener of the season, finishing sixth overall as a team at Springfield's Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 20. During the day, Lackman, who is currently ranked No. 6 in the nation and No. 1 in New England in his weight class, went 5-0 with two major victories and one pin to capture the individual crown at 157 lbs. He defeated Coast Guard's Joe Chapman, 11-3, in the finals. Lackman went through the entire day without being taken down or giving up near-fall points. Luchs followed him going 4-0 with three pins to win the individual title at 125 lbs. He defeated teammate and classmate Kwesi Amoa with a pin in the finals.

Luchs and Lackman have been the Anchormen's top performers thus far this season and Coach Jay Jones had a few words to say about the team collectively as well after the invitational to start the season.

"I am pretty proud of most of our guys today. We are showing some improvement as a program with five place-winners at the Doug Parker, which included two champions. We were only six points from third place so we have to make fewer rookie mistakes and we will be right in the mix."

Now just 1-2 on the season now, the Anchormen wrestling team, Plymouth University, University of Southern Maine and Castleton University, all at Southern Maine on Saturday, Dec. 11.
