The Loathsome Tooth

Sh-Ron Almeida

In the middle of the night

I awakened to immense discomfort

Throbbing like an erratic heartbeat, my back tooth aches

Infection mercilessly claws through my gums

Bacteria attacking the enamel armor

The remedies are just a temporary solution

My pained cries become louder as I long for sleep

The cavity robbing me of my senses

I hate feeling this way, a sense of helplessness

Lost hours, lost energy, stolen

But it won’t last forever

I will part ways with this pain soon

Thank God for dentists
