Dear Chris and Christine,

Valentine’s Day has always been a tough day for me. Fortunately this year I have a girlfriend and I would really like to impress her. Dou you guys have any advice for me to show her I love her and will impress her?

Head Over Heels

Head Over Heels,

Valentine’s Day is a day that I personally feel is overrated. It’s a Hallmark holiday, which forces people to buy cards, flowers and other gifts for their loved ones to show them you “love” them. Well, to let you in on a little secret, if I don’t show that I love you every day of the year, then I don’t think we should be together. But here are some ideas that can be used to show your feelings.
The easiest thing to do is buy your loved one chocolates and a card. Yes, this is the easiest and takes the least amount of thought, however it’s still a start and it shows that you do care.
If you are lucky enough to have the talent of cooking, cook her a delicious meal. Have her go over to your house or her house at a certain time and have a nice meal set up on the table. To add to the mood, I strongly suggest that you put candles in the middle of the table. One possible meal is pasta and meatballs. It is easy to make, however it can set up a mood as if you are in Italy and you can just talk over the candle-lit dinner.
Take her around in your car. Not just driving to random places, but to where your first dates were. This will show her no matter how long you two are together, you are always going to remember where you first met and that she made that much of an impression on you, and it will be with you forever.
My last piece of advice is if you and your loved one have been together for a long time and you feel you are ready to take the next step, don’t propose on Valentine’s Day. It is a very cliché move and predictable. The engagement should be a little random and out of the blue.

Head Over Heels,

This Valentine’s Day, get your sweetheart the perfect gift. Showing your partner how much you care about them can be done inexpensively.
Here are a few ideas:
 1. A scavenger hunt is a romantic and fun way to show your love and that they are special to you. First, you need a theme and riddles or clues to go with that theme. A theme can be revisiting your relationship, bringing them on a hunt to your first and most memorable dates. Another theme is to make them live as though they are in their favorite movie. Have things happen to them that are similar to the character in the movie by playing out certain scenes. An extra theme that can be added to the above ideas is to include your sweetheart’s interests (movies, animals, clothes, sports, games, etc.). Always lead the last riddle or clue to you!
 2. Buy eleven roses and one fake one. On a note write, “I will stop loving you when the last rose dies.”
 3. Print a picture of the two of you, and buy a plain picture frame. On the frame use a Sharpie marker and write a loving quote. It can be from a movie or a song that the two of you like.
 4. Blindfold your sweetheart and bring them to a part of the house. Have candles arranged in the shape of a heart. Place your love in the middle of the heart. Now light each candle stating why you love your partner. Take their blindfold off and say, “You will always be in my heart.”
 5. Make a scrapbook of all the pictures you have together, along with ticket stubs from movies, vacation hotel keys, favorite quotes, etc.
